About the Artist
Edita von Uslar-Gleichen was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1956 and reared in Germany's Black Forest. Growing up in the city of Freiburg, near the Rhine River and the French and Swiss borders, she acquired an early appreciation for both God's nature and man's architecture.
As a very young girl, Edita enjoyed painting portraits of family members and various friends, as well as still lifes from images of her home and idyllic surroundings.
In 1980, after attending Heidelberg University, she made a summer visit to the United States, where she ultimately married an American businessman in Washington, D.C. By 1982, she had established a broad reputation for her miniatures of national landmarks, still-lifes and character portraits in both watercolor and oil. Several Washington galleries exhibited her work, and soon after, her many images of the nation's capital were in large demand as actual-size reproductions from offset lithography.
In subsequent years, Edita has busied herself as a housewife and mother of four children. She resides in Northern Virginia with her husband of 30 years and continues to paint and oversee the reproduction of her work in the form of signed art prints, notecards and greeted winter holiday cards.
Edita's images can be found in numerous private, corporate and government collections worldwide.
